Making the point
A bronze watch that indicates the time and date? Yes, but for many reasons, the historic Oris Big Crown Pointer Date is much more than the sum of its parts. The Big Crown Pointer Date of Oris first appeared in the Oris collection in 1938, more than eight decades ago. Today, the same design principles continue to inform the Big Crown Pointer Date. Over time it has been refined with material and mechanical improvements, but the timeless pioneering spirit remains.
The Bronze Age returns
Oris celebrates the unique historical role of its signature Big Crown Pointer Date by wrapping it in solid bronze and using a bespoke finish that makes each bronze dial a one-off. The bronze case and dial symbolize Oris' industrial philosophy and the eternal value of a Swiss made mechanical watch. The solid bronze dial is chemically treated and coated with a transparent matt lacquer to create a unique finish for each piece, a different symbol, this time of the unique status of the watch's design.
The Big Crown Pointer Date is Oris’s signature design and a collection mainstay since 1938. Here it’s cast in solid bronze, a warm, industrial material that symbolises the model’s eternal value, and available with either a 36mm or 40mm case and a choice of dial finishes. Centre hands for hours, minutes and seconds, date centre hand, instantaneous date, date corrector, fine timing device and stop-second.
