The case and band of the Seiko Presage Sharp Edged series consist of numerous flat surfaces that meet at sharply defined angles. This ensures that the watch offers a shiny, literally brilliant sight from every angle of view. In three of the four models (model SPB170 excepted) of these new series, case and band are finished with super-hard coating to prevent scratches and guarantee a long-lasting shine.
The dial is finished with the Japanese Asanoha or hemp leaf pattern. This pattern was commonly used within Japanese culture during the Heian period - over a thousand years ago. The fibers from the plant's stem were traditionally used to make fabrics; and the leaf pattern is of particular importance within Japanese culture because it symbolizes rapid, strong growth. The pattern on the dial has a rich texture and complexity of clean geometric lines.
A mechanical watch automatically charges itself while worn by converting the wearer's arm and wrist movements into energy. Movement of the watch causes the main spring of the watch to be wound. This spring is the energy source.
