SEIKO PROSPEX The 1970 Diver's - Modern Reinterpretation
In addition to the Limited Edition celebrating the 80th anniversary of Naomi Uemura's birth, the Prospex also add a version with gray dial to the collection.
This commemorative watch reflects the design of the 1970 original, but is thoroughly contemporary in its execution. The subtly rough pattern on the dial is reminiscent of the mountainous terrain Uemura loved so much. Uemura was the first person in the world to reach the summits of the highest mountains on all five continents. The dial and bezel are executed in the blue tones characteristic of the upper atmospheric layers of the earth. Shades that can only be seen by those who know how to reach the roof of the world.
The sides of the case are carefully polished and the watch is fitted with a steel strap with modern sleek profile. The case has the characteristic asymmetrical shape that protects the crown at the 4 o'clock position.
The case has a super-hard coating to protect the watch from scratches. The curved sapphire crystal is finished with an anti-reflection coating on the inside. This ensures good readability from any angle. The watch has an improved water resistance up to 200 meters.
The additional included silicone strap has the ''train-track'' pattern of the original.
Uemura's name and serial number are engraved in the back cover.
This Naomi Uemura-inspired Limited Edition is powered by the 8L35 caliber, which was specially designed for diver's watches by the watchmakers at the Shizukuishi Watch Studio in northern Japan.
The 8L35 Seiko caliber with date display is a mechanical caliber. The watch automatically charges itself while worn by converting the wearer's arm and wrist movements into energy. Movement of the watch causes the main spring of the watch to be wound up. This spring is the energy source. Hand winding is also possible. When fully charged, the watch has a power reserve of about 50 hours. The tick rate of this automatic is 28,800 per hour and the watch has 26 jewels. The 8L caliber is completely manufactured in-house.
